Not Another Lonely Day

April 12, 2010ishabelle

I had no idea that listening to Ben Harper could be very depressing. I mean, he has some jolly tunes, but most of them were really about loneliness. Even Jack Johnson had the same miserable tone on some of his songs.

I am currently listening to Ben Harper’s Another Lonely Day. I used to like this a lot. But I find it depressing now. The song is perfect for beach afternoons, but at 4PM, when everybody is in a hurry to get home and watch their favorite shows on the boob tube, the sad and tearful lyrics of Ben Harper’s song was just not a good fit. Maybe I liked it during a time in my life when I was not generally happy yet or when I was still unsure of who I was and where I stood.

My point: It’s not just “Tell me who your friends are, and I’ll tell you who you are” for me. It’s also, “Tell me what your favorite song is, and I’ll tell you what disposition you have” that applies. I guess I should try to analyze my current favorite songs and see what they can reveal about me. 🙂

oh yes, metallica survives when all the others do not… hehehe… 🙂 my all time metallica favorite is the Unforgiven… the Gregorian version was not as good as them, but still quite haunting… 🙂
